Ashley Quick, 2021

Quick created this artwork for the City of Laramie’s Recreation Center. Selected through an open call, Quick met with the community and Recreation Center staff members to talk about what recreation means to them. The artwork captures the spirit of community recreation.

Statement from Quick:

Shared is a celebration of Laramie's most loved public spaces to recreate.

Stretching from Medicine Bow Peak in the west, to Vedauwoo in the east, the artist combined personal experiences with elements gathered through a series of public meetings. Participants reflected on the places, ecosystems, and activities that make them feel at home and most connected to their community.

From backcountry camping to strolling the downtown farmers' market, responses highlighted the importance of shared spaces.

Shared encourages people to advocate for public lands and steward public spaces.
